Meet Mark
Mark Steinward is the founder of One Tribe. He runs the Shamanic Training School, created the Deep Ancestral Healing Retreats and the Shamanic Clinic, started and continues to oversee and participate in the weekly Sound Healings in 2009 which has had tens of thousands of people attend and continues, where he can, to still people one on one as a shamanic practitioner. Mark began doing healing work as a small child. At around 6 years old, he became very ill in Bali. His mother, a doctor, got him the drugs he needed (to her surprise without even a script!). Her friend in the meantime did energy healing work on him. She touched him and Mark felt the energy instantly. After that, whenever he was unwell, he did the same energy healing work on himself. As a teenager, he would doctor the best Rugby players in his team if they got injured. He simply never stopped doing healing work…
Spiritually he first trained under an Indian Guru who gave him shaktiput (spiritual awakening of the kundalini) when he was 11 years old. His mum tricked him into going to India talking a lot about the Taj Mahal and nothing about spending the majority of their trip in an ashram. Despite rebelling against everything as a youth, he meditated obsessively through his teens which prepared him to meet his shamanic teacher in his early 20’s called Sue.
My shamanic journey
Sue was then a middle-aged Australian woman with a unique gift – she was a pure channel to your spirit guides. You could ask Sue any question, and she would share the answers directly from your spirit guides! Mark met his guides in this way and as he was curious to learn more, they trained him in the shamanic tradition. During every reading he would get a years’ worth of homework to do as a result. These included ways to heal himself, work with his spirit guides and expand his healing capabilities. This process went on for ten years which included extended shamanic trips with Sue overseas.
Eventually Mark grew to the point where he had done most of the healing work from his traumatic childhood and was ready to start a whole new chapter of his life. The big turning point came when the spirit guide who had been assigned to support him doing that healing work left and a new guide came in who was a shamanic teacher. As soon as Mark returned to Australia from an extended 3-month training trip with Sue, he started teaching allowing the wisdom of this new guide to flow through him. Again, he never stopped… That was over 18 years ago.
Mark’s passion and deep connection with shamanic healing has gifted him the opportunity to study deeply with indigenous cultures around the world. Upon completing the shamanic training there are regular opportunities to participate in yearly trips both within Australia and abroad which are not advertised to the general public. .
Healing work
Mark has always been drawn to doing the deeper healing work running trauma release camps, sexual abuse healing workshops, early childhood trauma workshops etc. Whilst a lot of students may not be drawn to do the depth of healing work Mark does, they are trained with the tools to do so if the need arises or the calling is there. Along with his training in shamanic healing, another significant influence in Mark’s healing work has been his mother’s Guru Sai Maa. Mark trained extensively with her to develop his Deep Ancestral Healing Retreats, which powerfully addresses childhood relationships and traumas. For over a decade, each year Mark takes shamanic students on the land with Aboriginal elders to share their wisdom and prior to Covid would travel internationally each year to fulfil his commitments with an indigenous tribe as part of his own private spiritual path. Mark does not teach any materials from his indigenous brothers and sisters, holding this as sacred and part of his own personal development.
Sound Healing Journey
Mark started playing the didgeridoo as a young pup when his mum went on a trip up to Arnhem land. He became passionate about the didge and using his voice for healing. Mark was astounded when he met the soon to form One Tribe team whilst on a trip around Australia and discovered there were other strange, passionate, sound healing shamanic folk just like him! There was virtually no sound healing at all back then and definitely none he’d encountered combining didgeridoos with drums, voice, gongs etc – it was such an exciting time to be breaking new ground. On this trip, the wife of an aboriginal elder sponsored them to make what became the original One Tribe CD. The first time they combined musically was at the recording studio! Pretty soon, Mark up and moved from the East Coast to hang out with his new family here in WA to set up One Tribe full time.
The rest is history… Since that time thousands of folks have attended sound healings on the Friday nights, hundreds of shamanic practitioners have been trained and countless lives have been transformed (not least of which his own).
